If its one thing about living in the city, it&rsquo;s needing to heavily rely on public transport.

Not many Malaysians are fortunate enough to own a car and some also may differ saying that using public transport is better and more cost efficient and it&rsquo;s more convenient. Although that the statement is true, many now debate whether owning a car is actually better than using public transport as the prices of e-hailing fares have surged up the ceiling.

Many of us need to still use Grab specifically when going home or to work as most stations (such as busses or even trains) don&rsquo;t directly access the housing area you might be living in.
Transport Minister Datuk Dr. Wee Ka Siong has now called upon platforms to give an explanation and clarification of the alleged price increase as high as 400% during peak hours after many have complained about expensive fares they have to pay recently.

&ldquo;An increase from RM20 to RM70 in the current situation is seen as burdensome to the people, so I think as a policymaker, we will see if any party is taking advantage to make a profit&rdquo; said Dr. Wee after visiting Ampang Park LRT on Sunday 22nd May.
He&rsquo;s requested for the Land Public Agency (APAD) to review and the issue and ask the companies to explain the price hike situation with expectations for an answer to come up in the next day or two.
APAD says that one of the few factors effecting the price is the working environment of drivers, passengers, service providers and others must be taken into count. This is to ensure the balance of supply and demand in e-hailing as both the service provider and user must have a mutual agreement for bookings via their apps while showing the fare amount.

If it isn&rsquo;t bad enough, the price hike is also affecting food delivery services. Customers even have the option for a premium queue order where it gets you the food faster, but it seems that many are ending up waiting just as long if not longer for food during peak hours.
For example, Food deliveries around the Kelana Jaya area to those residents in SS7 went up from RM2/ RM3 during off peak hours and RM5 delivery during peak to RM4.50/ RM5 during off peak and up to almost RM9 during peak hours.
With the reopening of economic sectors, services have seen a drop of approximately 25% in riders and at least a 10% of delivery food demand dropped as well.

Since prices are sky rocketing, many people are resorting to using Taxi&rsquo;s again as they offer more affordable prices. In fact, taxi passengers had increased by 40% lately said Combined Taxi Across Malaysia president Kamadurin Mohd Hussain.
Another reason towards the price hike of e-hailing services is due to the government not introducing controlled fares that taxi&rsquo;s have. During rush hour, due to competition, they take advantage to raise the prices due to high demand and as most of us are busy and want to get things done quick, we will automatically just take it.
Kamarudin suggests that the fairs of e-hailing services till still increase and it&rsquo;s almost impossible for it to go out of control if the number of taxi&rsquo;s decrease.
Fares on taxi&rsquo;s work differently as they start at RM3 and passengers will be charged RM0.10 for every 115m travelled.

Is e-Hailing Getting Too Expensive? Transport Minister Questions Alleged Fare Hikes

When living in the busy city, we can&rsquo;t help to think that we need more greenery within the city. When you look at most major cities, there&rsquo;s at least either one large section of green such as Central Park in New York City or even a park within the city such as the Lake Gardens Park or Taman Tugu right here in KL.

If you&rsquo;re one to go outdoors a lot or perhaps go to Bangsar often, you may have seen a place called Kebun-Kebun Bangsar which is a community garden within the city. It&rsquo;s situated along Lorong Bukit Pantai, Bangsar, where there&rsquo;s Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) electric pylons.
In fact, Kebun-Kebun Bangsar is violating their temporary occupancy license (TOL) for their nursery purpose as they had just been slapped with an eviction notice by the Federal Territory office of the department of the director-general of lands and mines (JKPTG).

The post was shared via their Instagram page where the notice was dated 23 June 2022 where they are in violation of Section 425 (1) of the National Land Code for using land located underneath high-voltage power lines owned and maintained by TNB without permission.
The violation states that they can be fined RM500,000 and jailed for five years if they fail to comply and remove all structures on the property. Additionally, the office states that they will not be entertaining any appeals after sending out the notice.
Violation of terms of license
Malay Mail reported that the office stands by the decision to evict the garden after violating the TOL. According to Datuk Muhammad Yasir from JKPTG, the office does encourage the gardening efforts but they are still required to abide by stipulated conditions.
&ldquo;Conditions for approved nurseries include the types of crops and no permanent structures are allowed under power lines, according to technical specifications from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB),&rdquo; said Yasir.
The eviction notice also comes by written and verbal complaints submitted by the residents of the area due to the garden rearing live stock within the property. The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had ordered the garden to remove the animals back in 2020 as the chickens, ducks and sheep within the property had caused the to be full of flies, noise disturbances from the animals as well as odour pollution within the housing area.
Hopes for Kebun-Kebun Bangsar to continue on running

62-year-old Ng Sek San who founded the community garden had thanked all of those who helped maintained the garden which was backed by the DBKL on a two-year license. &nbsp;However, he failed to realise that the city did not extend their license beyond 2018 and only came to know about it when they received the eviction notice.
Although several letters of appeal were submitted to the relevant authorities, there had been no avail. Even 19 out of 20 of the residents who live adjacent to the garden had supported them.
&ldquo;Every week, thousands come to our farm to acquaint themselves with nature. We want to be left alone to do our work peacefully. It must be protected and safeguarded by everyone, including City Hall and the other authorities.&rdquo; he said.
Farm praised by Prime Minister
Just recently before the eviction notice, Prime Minister Dato&rsquo; Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had praised the farm as fruits, vegetable and flowers have been harvested from the land and been distributed to those in need within the community as well as soup kitchens.

Additionally, the garden within the city had played a role to educate society on the effects of climate change.
Following the eviction threat, Ng fears that future volunteers will be driven away and it will be harder to maintain the garden if they are able to continue so.
It&rsquo;s hard to come by good things in life and sometimes I question, why can&rsquo;t authorities give a bit of slack and also talk it out with those occupying the land. At least they didn&rsquo;t build a full-on building on the property as a garden which helps supply the community is much more beneficial. 
I guess we&rsquo;ll have to wait and see what will happen to the garden but let&rsquo;s hope it&rsquo;s here to stay.

Despite how some people may say that Malaysians are sometimes racially divided, we all share one common love which is the love for sports (aside from our love for food at least).
Recently our diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong Pamg had bagged another medal as she finished 3rd place for the women&rsquo;s 10m platform during the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Unfortunately, Pandelela fell short of the gold and silver medal who were won by China&rsquo;s Chen Ruxi and Quan Hongchan respectively. Pandelela had scored a total of 338.85 points which secured her bronze medal.
Although how much we Malaysians and her supporters love to see it, Pandelela had reacted in the most Malaysian way possible with a &ldquo;boleh lah&rdquo;!

A step-up improvement over her last performance

In a report by New Straits Times, this is Pandelela&rsquo;s second medal after winning Bronze in the 2015 edition in Kazan, Russia.
Plus, the win also shows that Pandelela has been performing better and more consistent as she had tallied 332.10 and 313.15 points during the preliminaries and semi-finals. Although she&rsquo;s the oldest competitor in the tournament, it&rsquo;s dubbed as a moment of &ldquo;redemption&rdquo; after the disappointing performance she had at the Tokyo Olympics where she was one of the favourites to earn a medal.
&ldquo;I guess we can say that this is my redemption after the Olympics. I see every success and failure as a motivation to do better. And I am always inspired to watch the Chinese divers perform,&rdquo; said Pandelela.

Due to Malaysia&rsquo;s unstable economy, Malaysians of all ages have been looking out for jobs all over and some jobs were advertised online stating that it has high pay and great benefits. The victims then get attracted to and when they meet up with their new &ldquo;employer&rdquo; they get smuggled to countries such as Cambodia or Myanmar. From there, they are forced to conduct scam operations mainly targeting Chinese speaking individuals or foreigners.
Job syndicate arrested by authorities

With the authorities cracking down on these cases, it looks like these syndicates are slowly getting caught. One such recruiter who allegedly works with the syndicates has been arrested recently. PCA Public services and Complaints Department head, Datuk Seri Michael Chong had identified the man as &ldquo;Danny&rdquo; and he is an Indian-American who can speak fluent mandarin.
Danny frequently operates via social media luring the victims with ads of high paying jobs available abroad. After convincing the victim to apply for the job, he would personally meet the victims and picked them up in person before smuggling them through clandestine routes out of Malaysia to go Myanmar and Cambodia.
Victims were also held under ransom while they perform their job and negotiation between the syndicate and family are talked upon as many want their loved ones back home.
Victims participate in scam operations under tight watch
The victims later learn about the truth of the jobs they were getting into as members of the syndicates kept them under watchful eyes with armed guards 24/7 to ensure that they don&rsquo;t go against their jobs.
The victims were all kept within a compound on multiple floors where it&rsquo;s said to have over 300 people and many of them also included Malaysians.

In a report earlier this week, Danny is identified as the same recruiter who had duped two teenagers from Pahang to take up a &ldquo;customer service position&rdquo; before they were smuggled to perform a love scam operation in Myanmar.
As of now, Datuk Seri Michael Cheong says that their department currently has as many as 74 complains regarding job scams but so far, only 23 people have been rescued. Authorities are currently in the right direction towards rescuing victims as operations are still currently ongoing.
&nbsp;Hopefully these victims will soon return to home to their families. Although it&rsquo;s tough for authorities to catch all these syndicates but slowly does it. 
A reminder to all to not easily fall for job scams easily as it could mean life or death for yourselves. I don&rsquo;t think anyone would want to go through the mental trauma of being smuggled around to work as scammers.

Syndicate Who Lured Malaysians Into Job Scams Arrested 

Everyone knows the struggle of finding parking in a shopping mall on a weekend.
But the one thing many Malaysians love is the convenience of how we have Touch &lsquo;n Go to pay for parking cause it&rsquo;s super convenient. Many of us now live in the era of cashless transactions and sometimes we don&rsquo;t even bring cash around with us anymore.

But if you&rsquo;re one to go to 1 Utama, you&rsquo;ll know that out of all the biggest malls in Malaysia and it still does not support TnG payments as they have their own parking payment card known as ONECARD.
It all started with a TikTok
As jokes can be fun and all, TikTok user Ping Zhi Chuah took the opportunity to make a TikTok stating about the struggles of going to 1 Utama without small change.

Ping had no small change and used a RM20 note to pay for his parking and in return, rather than getting notes back, he received RM18 of change in 50 cent coins (which were all new and shiny). The TikToker showed his frustration in a joking way saying how he now has all the coins while holding it in his hand.
Taking an opportunity
After that went viral, our favourite meme site MGAG took the opportunity to jokingly roast 1 Utama for not having TnG as one of their cashless parking options.

A grab driver in Sarawak had posted a video on TikTok where he stole the spot light with his &ldquo;ability&rdquo; to speak another language. Typically, we don&rsquo;t see Malays talking in Mandarin or any other Chinese dialects but this got netizens impressed&hellip; and confused.

Off the get go, it&rsquo;s impressive that a non-Chinese person can confidently and fluently talk the language but as you can see in the video, even the uncle at the stall was also left in a state of shock when trying to communicate with him. The man was too stunned to speak.
One possible reason why most of us wouldn&rsquo;t understand the language is due to the Grab driver speaking in a local dialect which only Sarawakians can understand or is because he really isn&rsquo;t talking in a mandarin?

Not too long ago, he had also gone viral when speaking Mandarin while at a motorcycle workshop. Although the Chinese man in the video didn&rsquo;t seem to understand what he&rsquo;s trying to say, his friends definitely had a good laugh as they were amazed at his speaking skills.

Do many Malaysians speak a Chinese language?

To be fair, most schools in Malaysia teach Mandarin primarily, in comparison to the other Chinese dialects.
In Malaysia, Chinese languages vary from Mandarin to other dialects such as Cantonese, Hakka and Hokkien. These dialects may also further vary upon the state you live in and family upbringings. At the moment, there is around 22.4% of Chinese ethnicity living in Malaysia but it doesn&rsquo;t specificy how many of them could speak which language / dialects as some classify themselves as a &ldquo;banana&rdquo; (unable to speak ANY Chinese language / dialect).

Netizens Stunned At Sarawakian Grab Rider Speaking Mandarin?

If you ask Malaysians what do we all have in common, for sure someone will answer is that we all love to eat. No matter where you go, there&rsquo;s always something delicious to eat around the corner at almost any time of the day.

But one thing that&rsquo;s difficult to handle is how people view our food and also maintaining the hygiene and cleanliness of the restaurant and the food. One slip up and a post on social media can mean the downfall of the restaurant as it is.
Recently, a customer took to Facebook having shared their bad experience at a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur as she came across a fishing hook while enjoying the meal with her family. Her father had found the hook inside the fish head embedded in a chunk of flesh.

&ldquo;Isn&rsquo;t it incredible? We found a fishing hook inside a fish head. Fortunately, my father didn&rsquo;t take a whole bite, and broke apart the flesh before finding the hook.&rdquo; she said.
As she was stunned, she had asked for the manager to make a report on the incident.
Manager blames distributor and not their restaurant

The woman flagged one of the waiters and explained what would happen if other families did not discover the hook or if children were to share the meal. The waiter did apologise and said it was the kitchen&rsquo;s fault for being careless which is understandable.
But things took a twist when she went to pay for the meal, she questioned the manager in charge over the matter. However, the manager allegedly responded stating that &ldquo;it&rsquo;s not our fault, it&rsquo;s the supplier&rsquo;s problem.&rdquo;

Even after this issue, the restaurant had only deducted 60 cents from the total bill as a form of &ldquo;compensation&rdquo;.
Report to JKN if ethics are not followed
The public is advised to immediately make a complain to the State Health Department (JKN) if people who sell food without complying with the ethics of preparation of the food.
Earlier in January 2022, a famous restaurant in Kelantan had been penalized under the Food Act 1983 for causing food hazards after a child had accidentally swallowed a nail which was used to seal the food packaging.

Customer Finds Fish Hook In Food! Restaurant Blames Supplier Instead

Looks like things are getting a little spicy in the world of politics.
Many know that Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) is an Islamist political party in Malaysia. Recently their Youth Chief Ahmad Fadhli Saari was in the spotlight as he came under heavy fire when he visited a cinema in KL.

For those who didn&rsquo;t know, there is no cinemas at all in Kelantan and those who would want to watch a movie will need to head to Terengganu to do so. Ever since PAS ruled in 1990, the Lido Cinema along Jalan Pos Office Lama, Kota Bharu had closed down.
The best part of this whole issue is that Ahmad Fadli who is the Pasir Mas MP was also the man who had initially rejected the proposal to build a cinema in Kelantan back in 2016 due to cinemas being a source of maksiat (social ills).

PAS Selangor Youth speaks up on the situation

Due to all the backlash, PAS Selangor Youth had stepped in to defend Ahmad Fadhli on Facebook. The only reason why he was at the cinema was due to him accepting the invitation to watch the new &ldquo;Mat Kilau&rdquo; film and wanted to show his support for it.
They also stated the cinema ban in Kelantan and watching movies in KL should be viewed as a separate matter and things like this should be judged in a fair manner. Meanwhile, they also stated that they still support the context of rejecting cinemas in Kelantan as the current day movies do not comply with the shariah and has loose regulations.
Well, that&rsquo;s one way to put it huh? I guess this is why the party has been losing support over the years. As highlighted by one Twitter user, the only reason why they are still in power is due to voters outside Kelantan coming back to the state just for the election.

PAS Youth Chief Slammed For Double Standards After Visiting Cinema To Watch “Mat Kilau”

Are you one of those people who drive to work every day? Raise your hand if you&rsquo;re constantly stuck in traffic despite your workplace being nearby.

A study was conducted and states that commuters in the Klang Valley spend at least 44 hours per month being stuck in traffic jams. The average employee is estimated to be stuck in their vehicles for one to two hours everyday during their journey to work says UiTM Dr Ismaniza Ismail.

Most employees work only eight hours a day but due to the daily commute, many lose a couple hours of their day right there. Employees around the Klang Valley also have to wake up earlier than usual in the morning to get ready and avoid getting stuck in traffic jams.
In fact, some people when going to work, instead of a smooth journey, they drive right into a traffic jam which can also be just outside of their housing area since most major housings are close to the main road or highway.
Dr Ismaniza states that the issue doesn&rsquo;t only plagues workers&rsquo; personal lives but also affects the productivity cost. The average wage in Malaysia is RM7 an hour and for two hours a day wasted in traffic and then you multiply it by 22 working days, most employees was at least RM308 of productivity in a month.
If you think RM308 isn&rsquo;t a lot, it can do wonders such as paying for petrol, groceries at home and many other necessities.
Everyone knows that when you&rsquo;re stuck in a traffic jam, it can affect ones mental and emotional health. Plus it&rsquo;s bad for our bodies as it can cause backpain for sitting down for long durations thus affecting ones emotions and productivity within a workplace.

Lately, the LRT/MRT and e-hailing services such as Grab have been the talk of the town as many find it too inefficient. The frequency of trains has decreased due to it being under maintenance and stations are getting too crowded. Meanwhile Grab is facing a shortage of drivers on the road due to many not willing to drive in the heavy traffic and have now left for other proper jobs again.

One solution suggested is for companies to have flexible working arrangements so employers can adopt ways to reduce employee&rsquo;s stress. If it&rsquo;s one thing that&rsquo;s certain, its that those in the Klang Valley can expect traffic congestions to get worse.
As we all talk about arrangement for flexible working hours in the future to reduce stress and increase productivity, the government had also passed an amendment in the Employment Act which will be enforced starting on 1 September.
By then, employees are allowed to formally request for flexible working arrangements which include working hours, days and to remotely work. However, their employers must give a written reply within 60 days and provide a reason for the rejection of the application.
If its one thing is that I hope the government will take the public transport issue mor seriously and see to improve its services in the coming years. If this keeps up, I don&rsquo;t think anyone would even be attracted to live or work in Kuala Lumpur anymore.
